Alyssa Vieira is a freshman at WAC from Mission Viejo California and this week’s Student Spotlight! Alyssa is a Biology Pre-Med major and plans to put her studies toward becoming an anesthesiologist. She originally had always intended to be a surgeon, but she suffers from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, causing her to be born with two extra ribs. As a result, her muscles in her shoulder became constricted, and she lost all nerve endings and muscle in her right hand (which she calls her lucky fin, just like Nemo, since its much smaller than her left hand!). But after a long-awaited surgery, Alyssa was able to regain strength in her right arm, and still aspires to work in the medical field despite her hand. Alyssa also plays softball at WAC. She plays outfield and is a lefty slapper. She wants to be this year’s Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year, and with her hard work and determination, she can definitely do it! Alyssa has an extreme love for Disney. She tries to go to Disney Land as much as possible when she is home and has the luxury of only being only 30 minutes away. If you see any Disney clothes, accessories, shoes, or hear any Disney song, Alyssa probably has it or knows it. Alyssa is part Korean and Portuguese. But she specifically has a love for her Korean heritage and loves Asian food.

If you have the chance to talk to Alyssa, defiantly take advantage! She is an inspiring person and a great friend!
