One thing I’ve always had trouble with is making time for myself. I have always been too busy playing softball, doing school work, or trying to hang out with my friends and never really thought about making time for myself, or taking care of myself. Lack of self-care caused me to become over anxious, stressed, and even sick (I’ve been one to make myself so stressed that I got a fever). In college, making time for yourself can be so much harder, but with this list of 10 quick self- care methods, you can learn to destress and care for yourself.
Detach yourself from your phone and computer a bit! Plug them on the charger and maybe go for a walk outside or take a ride to your favorite spot. This way you won’t have to worry about what other people are doing on social media, or about your essay you have to type.
Take a Nap
Now this is a common misconception, even for myself. Taking a nap does not mean going to sleep for 3 hours of your day. Take a quick 20 minute nap. This way you can relax, but still take on the day when you wake up!
Essential oils are a great way to relax. Throw some lavender oil into a diffuser and relax. Oils are known to help with relaxation and stress relief!
Watch a Movie
One thing I’ve realized really helps me is watching a movie on Netflix by myself. Look up top 100 movie on Netflix and start checking each movie off the list as you watch them.
Have a Date- with Yourself
Do something that you like to do! Maybe read a book, paint, or any other hobby you enjoy.
Get out of bed and get to the gym! Or not! You could take a walk or even just dance around. Laying in bed all day makes you feel like you have wasted the day, and exercise-induced endorphins are a great way to make you feel instantly better.
Give yourself a dorm room or apartment spa day. Paint your nails, take a shower, do a face mask, or cut up some cucumbers and put them on your eyes! Anything to make yourself feel refreshed.
One thing that most people struggle with is self-confidence. Tell yourself that you’re worth it and be positive! Try to compliment yourself on something new every day!
Write Out What’s Bothering You
I’m not saying that you need to keep a diary, but sometimes writing things down that are worrying you really helps you brain dump! And if you’re really feeling crazy, throw that worry list in the trash when you’re done so you can feel as if you’re throwing your worries away.
Spend Time With Pets
One of my favorite things to do to destress and relax is to spend time with my animals! If you don’t have your pet at home, there are opportunities all the time on campus where dogs and cats are brought for students in need. Maybe befriend a student with a pet on campus!
With these 10 tips, hopefully you can balance caring for yourself and your busy schedule at school with a lot more ease!
