One week from now, WAC will officially be on Thanksgiving Break. As a freshman, this Thanksgiving will be extra special for me because I get to fly home early (I’m leaving on Friday!) and see my friends and family for the first time since move-in day in August. I’m especially looking forward to home-cooked meals, because let’s be honest for a minute here – dining hall food is decent, but nothing beats your mom’s cooking. I’m also looking forward to the warm weather and spending some time at the beach, eating ice cream – sorry, non-Floridians! In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I decided to take some time to talk to three RA’s to see what they’re most thankful for this year.
Ana is an RA for Queen Anne’s and her favorite Thanksgiving food is mashed potatoes. “I’m thankful for having the opportunity to be here, for the opportunities that this school has given me, and for being able to help other people in my roles as an RA, a life guard, and a driver for Safe Ride,” sophomore Ana Reynoso-Zimmerer said. ”I’m also so excited to see my family, to spend time with them, and to go to the beach!”
“I’m most thankful for my friends and family,” senior Tom Heffernan said. “Honestly, I’m looking forward to getting the chance to go ho home, to unwind and do my thing and not having to worry about RA duties.” Tom’s favorite Thanksgiving food is stuffing and he is also an RA for Queen Anne’s.
“I’m most thankful for the sources of support I’ve received this semester from so many angles – my family, professors, and ResLife supervisors. Senior year is a little scary for everyone, and having a support system to help students pull through is significant,” senior Sabrina Carroll said. Sabrina is the Resident Area Director for Zone 1 and her favorite Thanksgiving food is mashed potatoes. “I’m looking forward to taking a breather from school, eating a home-cooked meal with family (plus that post-meal nap), and spending time with friends back home.”
