Do you know May Kiros? It not, let me take a few minutes to introduce you to this amazing young lady who we are fortunate to have with us at WAC. May is a political science and economics double major here and currently serves as our SGA president, a sister of Alpha Omicron Pi and a talented singer in WACapella. She’s quite the busy bee! May discussed how these opportunities helped to shape her into the person she is today; “I think these positions have tested me in ways I couldn’t imagine before arriving here. There have been tough weeks, but everything I’ve done has always been equally, if not more, rewarding. These positions have also put me in contact with some incredible people that I know I will remain lifelong friends with.”
In a couple of weeks, Thanksgiving will be here! This holiday is so special because you can come together with your friends, your family and be reminded of what you are truly thankful for! “I have always been thankful for the people here at WAC. Whether they’re my professors, staff members, or my classmates, I’ve always had someone to lean on or reach out to in my times of stress or struggle”, said May. “I’m a big believer in surrounding yourself with people you admire and trust, and there’s no shortage of those people here at WAC. My biggest piece of advice is to be intentional. Be intentional with your words, your relationships, and your time. Multi-tasking is not a thing. So, dedicate your time and your energy into people and things that you’re really passionate about. And, never be afraid to ask for help. I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am today without the help of my family, friends, and mentors.” I asked May what the Thanksgiving holiday means to her, “Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. I try my best to reflect regularly on where I am and how I’ve gotten here, and it’s only intensified during Thanksgiving. Every person in my life has played a part in helping shape me into the person that I am today, and I couldn’t be more thankful to each and every one of them. I especially enjoy that I get to go home to Colorado for a few days to see my family again – and, of course, my dog.” I’m so blessed to know such an amazing leader and friend like May.
