The English and American Studies departments very own Dr. Alisha Knight was featured in the Washington College News recently. Dr. Knight has been writing a book on Pauline Hopkins, an African American author who blossomed during the beginning of the 20th century. She started her research with Hopkins first novel Contending Form and then went on to research the book’s publisher, the Colored Co-Operative Publishing Company.
Collaborating with the GIS Lab as well as students, together they looked through literature and social history. This project has been named “Putting Them on the Map” which is “a digital humanities project using data analytics to create a data visualization of the Colored Co-operative’s network of subscription agents.”
Congratulation on such a great project everyone! To see more, click this link and then select “Putting Them on the Map” to read more.
