Why it’s Important to Keep a Clean Room

DSC_0592.JPGKeeping an organized and clean room is a great way to maintain good mental health and to make yourself feel more relaxed. A clean room can also help you be more productive by giving you a clean workspace. A dorm room for many often doubles as both a bedroom and an office, so when one is messy it can lead to an unproductive use of time. Your sleep may be disturbed by a dirty room and so may your ability to concentrate on important school-related projects. Not only is having a clean room good for productivity but the act of cleaning your room may be a stress reliever. Being able to successfully organize a messy area can give one the sense of control that many lack due to the stressfulness of college.  To help you keep a clean room and clean mind, here are some tips.

  1. Take 10 minutes a few times a week to put away and organize all the stuff in your room. After a busy week of classes and work, all of your junk can start to pile up on the chair you never use.
  2. Hardcore clean once a month. This means vacuuming and disinfecting all the spaces you can.
  3. Try to limit the amount of stuff you have. We already live in small spaces, so having less stuff can help things be more organized.
  4. Make your bed. So many people have issues with making their beds but it really can make you feel much more organized and productive. It only takes a few minutes to do and is a great habit to get into.
