Why I Love Groundhog Day

RcGMjdjcL.jpegIn no more than two days one of my favorite holidays will be here, which is Groundhog Day! It is a holiday that does no get much attention and is often over looked if you aren’t aware of it. Every February 2nd, Punxsutawney Phil climbs out of his hole to look for his shadow and hundreds gather in the small town of Pennsylvania to celebrated this exciting occasion. If you ask me, that is just the coolest thing ever! Many of you have probably seen the movie “Groundhog Day” which really brings light to this little holiday, and I highly recommend watching as a way to celebrate. Most of us will probably have classes and things to do on this upcoming Groundhog Day, which kind of stinks if you ask me, so if you have the chance watch what Phil is up too on the news. This holiday is so great because it takes the simplest of things, a groundhog seeing a shadow, and turns it into a huge celebration. It reminds people to enjoy the little things, like having a shorter or longer winter, and to just be happy no matter what. If I ever get the chance I will travel to Punxsutawney Pennsylvania to take part in their Groundhog Day celebrations, lets just hope I don’t keep waking up to “I Got You, Babe” by Sonny and Cher every morning! I really hope that you take time to appreciate this holiday on Thursday and find the joy in it that so many people do. With all the crazy in our lives and the stress the world can bring it is important to find the little things that make us happy and make life worth it. So have a happy Groundhog’s Day and lets all hope Phil doesn’t see his shadow so spring can hurry up and get here.
