Which Sorority Will You Choose?

This week is sorority recruitment week! All this week the three sororities on campus, Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Omicron Pi, and Zeta Tau Alpha are interacting with girls to learn more about them. If you are currently going through the recruitment process it can seem a little overwhelming. There are so many members to meet and so little time. With a whole bunch of information thrown at you from each chapter it may be hard to keep it all straight. To help organize and calm your busy brain I have put together a little summary of each of the sororities here at Washington College.

Alpha Chi Omega: The philanthropy that AXO support is Domestic Violence Awareness. You can see these girls turning the campus purple to help raise awareness for domestic violence. Some philanthropy fundraisers they hold are “Walk a Mile”, this is where many men on campus put on high-heeled shoes and walk a mile through campus and into town. Another fun philanthropy raising event is their annual casino night! Every one gets dressed up, enjoys great food, and has a lot of fun.

Alpha Omicron Pi: Arthritis Awareness is the philanthropy of AOII. They host a “Green Week” to help raise awareness and do projects like sending cards to children in hospitals who suffer from arthritics and making Boo Boo Pandas which are fun heating pads to give to children to help with their pain. The doge ball tournament is another fun way these women raise money and many people enjoy playing the game. Every fall they host a 5K walk/run to honor their late sister Jasmine. During this event many alumni and people from the community come to give their support for Jasmine and her family.

Zeta Tau Alpha: To support Breast Cancer Awareness ZTA will turn the campus pink. They host cookouts at many of WC’s varsity games. These women team up with the athletes to dress in pink which they call “Pink Outs,” to support their philanthropy. The event Big Man on Campus takes place every fall. During this event a male students strut their stuff in hopes of winning the pageant, all while raising money for breast cancer awareness.

These three sororities are full of hardworking women who do what they can to make their sororities great! So enjoy recruitment and have fun meeting all of the great girls!
