This week, Alpha Chi Omega painted the campus purple to bring awareness to their philanthropy, domestic violence awareness. While walking to class, you may have noticed trees and benches with purple ribbons tied to them. These ribbons were to remind everyone that domestic violence is a serious issue. I certainly learned a lot of facts this week. 1 in 4 women are victims of domestic violence in their lifetime, 1 in 5 women have been raped in their lifetime, and every 9 seconds a woman is attacked by an intimate partner. To finish off their week of awareness, Alpha Chi is hosting Casino Night.
Casino Night is a really fun time to get a little dressed up, go out with your friends, and support a very important cause. This event will be held in the Casey Academic Center this Saturday night. From 6 pm to 9 pm, you can enjoy delicious food, drinks, games, raffles, and prizes. Tickets for Casino Night are $5 for students and $10 for guests.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence. Last year, the sisters raised over $4000 for the cause. The Mid-Shore Council is a social service organization that provides help to victims of domestic violence through information and assistance. With Alpha Chi’s donations every year, they are able to bring more awareness to the cause and use the money to help those in need. Alpha Chi also helps to serve individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. They also raise funds and donate their time to shelters and other service-providing organizations. Help support Alpha Chi Omega’s philanthropy and come out to Casino Night!
