The spring semester is underway and that means it is almost time for Panhellenic Recruitment to begin! This is a great way to meet new friends and possibly find your new family on campus. As if school isn’t already stressful enough, recruitment week can feel hectic and nerve-wracking at times. However, it can all be worth it in the end. Joining a sorority lets you to make lifelong friendships, tons of memories, and allows you to be a part of a fantastic group of individuals. Each sorority is unique in their own way but you are sure to find your fit.
To help ease the pre-rush butterflies, I asked some girls about their recruitment experiences and what tips they have for anyone considering rushing. Rachel Petrie ’15, a sister of Zeta Tau Alpha, said, “Recruitment is a great way to meet new people, even girls in the sororities I didn’t join. I thought it was really fun and I loved dressing up.” Rachel’s tips for having a good experience are to talk to as many people as you can and be sure to dress presentable. Brooke Burghardt ’17, also a sister of Zeta Tau Alpha, added, “Don’t text or look bored and eat the food!” Anna Nazario ’16, a sister of Alpha Chi Omega, said, “My recruitment experience was really good. Don’t be nervous and just have fun!” Jada Lee ’17, sister of Alpha Omicron Pi, said she loved formal night of recruitment and her number one tip would be, “Do it for yourself. Don’t choose a sorority just because that’s what all your friends are doing. Make sure that you find the right fit for you.”
If you aren’t too sure if sorority life is for you, I still would suggest giving it a try. You never know what may come and you might just find your new home!
Recruitment week begins Sunday, February 1st with Panhellenic Tea at 11 am. You can register for recruitment at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/washington-college-panhellenic-recruitment-tickets-14921129500
