Maria Falzone’s “Sex Rules”

maria falzone-thumb-180x233-7001Sex is awkward. Sex can be good- it can be the best thing ever. But, it can also be awful. Don’t worry about whatever standard society gives you; sex is for your personal enjoyment. And that’s what it all comes down to- you, which was the focus of Maria Falzone’s “Sex Rules” (a standup comedy about sex that freshman went to) I learned a lot about sex I did not know before. Yeah, there were sex jokes, but the show was also very informative. Maria Falzone, the comic genius behind this act, talked about safe sex and STDS, but she also talked about how it should be comfortable and enjoyable- this means communication is key! No matter if you are lesbian, gay, straight, bi, transgender, pan, etc. sex is sex no matter what. Everyone thinks about sex- it is a real thing, so there is no need for embarrassment about it. Sex is universal, so it is okay to ask questions or go get checked—no one is judging you. What I got most out of this session was that you should be yourself because you’re the only that knows how your body feels. Experiment. Your body is a natural and gorgeous being, and it’d be a shame not to know how to use it to its full potential. If you think something isn’t right, then it isn’t- it is okay to stop whenever you feel uncomfortable. The show was great and it had its comical moments, but there were times to be serious, such as when Flazone discussed how to handle certain situations such as, rape, sexual assault, or just communication with your partner. Sex is fun, but it’s always important to be respectful.
